FRANCIS, A PERSON OF PEACE

Saint Francis of Assisi was a person of peace. He believed in the depth of his heart that the Lord was calling him to be a messenger of peace in a world full of wars and divisions.

FRANCIS, BROTHER OF THE MUSLIMS

In the Middle Ages, Muslims and Christians chose to resolve their problems through holy wars (Aljihad or the Crusades). Francis chose another way. He crossed the borders that separated Christians from Muslims in Damietta, Egypt, to meet his brother, the Sultan.

FRANCIS, THE BROTHER

In the beginning of his journey with the Lord, Francis met the leper. After having overcome his fear, he went to the leper and the leper kissed him. He understood, then, that each person, young or old, weak or powerful, was his brother and sister, the Lord’s gift. At the end of his life, he summarised this discovery:

"And the Lord gave me brothers".

FRANCIS, FULLY HUMAN

Saints aren’t aliens nor angels. Francis was a man, a human person who lived his humanity in its fullness. When he was still young, he was a group leader: he animated all the parties of his friends. Without him, they couldn’t do anything. Even when he followed the Lord, he never ceased to rejoice. He was a person who wasn’t afraid of expressing clearly his deepest feelings of joy, happiness, sadness, loneliness, anxiousness, fear,… He was FULLY HUMAN.
