THE FORMATION HOUSE

Saint Francis House, at Mtayleb, is our Formation house. It is there that the young men, who desire to know Franciscan Spirituality, come to join us. After a time in which we get to know each other (Pre-postulancy), they share with us, under the same roof, our life of fraternity and prayer (Postulancy). A year later, they start their Noviciate, i.e. a period of initiation to our Franciscan and Capuchin life, in order to be able to make their profession of evangelical life, according to the spirit of Francis.

Saint Francis House is also...

- ... the residence of our Vice-Provincial brother,
- ... the National Centre for the SFO and the Franciscan Youth,
- ... a Retreat Centre;
- ... it is there that, every two weeks, all the Novices in Lebanon gather together.

ANNOUNCEMENTS OF THE WEEK

New Capuchin Blessed:

On April 27, 2003, in St. Peter’s Square, Pope John Paul II beatified Brother Mark Cristofori of Aviano. During his studies under the Jesuits, Mark experienced a desire to become a Capuchin. Once ordained priest, he began his ministry as a preacher. A miraculous healing took place in the course of one of his sermons at Padua in 1676, which was to dramatically change the course of his life. From then on, his preaching intensified and expanded throughout Europe, and with it his fame as a healer. He led a very austere lifestyle, marked by a profound piety. Papal requests to his superiors led Mark to undertake numerous missions: from to Tyrol, then Bavaria, then Salzburg and other cities of Austria. Finally it led him to Linz where the emperor was expecting him. There began a relationship with Leopold I that had notable repercussions in world politics. From Vienna he went to Neuburg where he worked a great miracle. A formidable task awaited him at Vienna: halting the advance of the Turks. The year was 1689. Mark died at Vienna on August 13, 1699.
